Service Description

We offer the most comprehensive End of Life Doula training program in Canada where participants gain knowledge through study of the evolution of death care, historical religious and cultural practices, dying and death theory and practical skill development. The academic curriculum focuses on knowledge from today’s thought leaders and modern-day ‘end of life’ pioneers. The role of the end of life doula is relatively new in the evolution of end of life care. Our organization and educational programs reflect our commitment to establishing standardized practices and adhering to well-defined core competencies. The education and training provided within the End of Life Doula Care Certificate Program is based on the curriculum ascribed to by birth doulas; theoretical, evidence-based and practical in nature. End of Life Doulas are non-medical care providers. There will be homework assignments, essays, quizzes, and a final multiple-choice exam. Attendance is required at each weekend training session, for certification. The remaining work is to be completed within one year from start date of program. This includes a capstone project and volunteer/mentorship work. End of Life doulas are gaining momentum in the death positive movement. They find employment through private practice or contribute to an inter-disciplinary team. Participants must be 18 years of age and have high school diploma. In addition, all non-English speaking applicants must demonstrate a mastery of written and spoken English. Any foreign applicant may be required to submit an official score report from an English proficiency exam such as TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Test System). The End of Life Doula Care certificate training is a continuing education program that takes place one weekend per month for seven months. As well, within the calendar year, students must complete 50 hours of volunteer/mentorship work and a capstone project for a total of 250 training hours.
